My process began in a digital space. I focused on organizing data, building a visual system, and playing with how my collected information could be visually translated into individual patterns.

I organized the information into four sections that gradually grew from general to specific. To match the growth in intimacy that the audience would have to my life details, my applications grew from large to small.

This set of data showcases the impact that moving for the military had on our relationship to family. The top translation visualizes the distance each house was from the Coast Guard base my dad was assigned to. The bottom shows the distance each house was from family, defined by the address of my grandparents’ house.

This piece is the foundation of the living room and acts as a timeline for where I’ve lived. Each oval represents a house with its length coordinating to the amount of time that I lived there.

These shapes are broken up by a diamond motif which indicates a move. The colorful diamonds indicate a state move with blue representing Florida, green representing North Carolina and orange representing Virginia.

This translation takes the motifs from the first piece and focuses on a more specific element from the second piece by showcasing the specific addresses of each home.

These three designs showcase the most specific and personal information. Each focus on a specific house from each state and utilizes the same modular system to highlight the differences of each house.
